Alexis was surrounded by the most amazing group of people, young and old. Kara and I have had the pleasure of getting to know many more of Alexis’s friends, mentors, and leaders since her passing. The outpouring of emotion, condolences, and support for, and stories about, Alexis has been tremendous.
It has been comforting for Kara and I to see, through your eyes, that the daughter we knew, loved, and respected is the same young woman you knew, loved, and respected. We would enjoy all of you sharing your stories here so there can be a virtual memorial of her life and her contribution to our lives. This memorial can serve as a touchstone for all of us when we feel the need to reach out and be comforted by her memory.
For those of you that are not able to attend Alexis’ service please appreciate that Alexis, of all people, understood time management and schedule challenges. She will understand that not all of you can be here. Please take a moment on the 24th and think about her and your relationship with her, enjoy a photo, or share a story. This is how she paid her respects to those that have gone from among us.
There is a hole in our future and in our hearts and Alexis is dearly missed. She was a strong, beautiful, intelligent, creative, and loyal young woman. Each of you helped form a part of that in her. Remember her life and her contribution to your life. Gather your fondest memories of her and carry these forward as her legacy.
She will forever be in our hearts and minds.
Thank you,
Captain Bil Derby and Mrs. Kara Derby
