ForeverMissed

Alexis was surrounded by the most amazing group of people, young and old.  Kara and I have had the pleasure of getting to know many more of Alexis’s friends, mentors, and leaders since her passing. The outpouring of emotion, condolences, and support for, and stories about, Alexis has been tremendous. It has been comforting for Kara and I to see, through your eyes, that the daughter we knew, loved, and respected is the same young woman you knew, loved, and respected.  We would enjoy all of you sharing your stories here so there can be a virtual memorial of her life and her contribution to our lives. This memorial can serve as a touchstone for all of us when we feel the need to reach out and be comforted by her memory.

For those of you that are not able to attend Alexis’ service please appreciate that Alexis, of all people, understood time management and schedule challenges. She will understand that not all of you can be here. Please take a moment on the 24th and think about her and your relationship with her, enjoy a photo, or share a story. This is how she paid her respects to those that have gone from among us. There is a hole in our future and in our hearts and Alexis is dearly missed. She was a strong, beautiful, intelligent, creative, and loyal young woman. Each of you helped form a part of that in her. Remember her life and her contribution to your life. Gather your fondest memories of her and carry these forward as her legacy.

She will forever be in our hearts and minds.

Thank you,

Captain Bil Derby and Mrs. Kara Derby

it is almost a year since you lost your beautiful daughter and we just heard about her passing the other day. We were so saddened to hear of your loss. We didn't know Alexis but this memorial site has given us a glimpse of what is gone from your lives. Though our paths don't often cross anymore, our hearts go out to you as friends and as parents ourselves.

You're in my thoughts every day, & will always have a special place in my heart. You are the sister that I never had, & no one will ever be able to replace you. I miss your shining smile & your ability to cheer me up no matter what had me down. I found an ornament that you made me, a Christmas tree with a garland smile. It will have a place of honour every year. I love you Alexis. RIP

Bil and Kara, my deepest sympathies. I remember Alexis as a student in my grade seven class: eager, fresh, ready to explore new challenges. It was my pleasure to visit with her at her graduation dinner at LSS this spring: keen and excited about the prospects ahead. Her life - a light too soon extinguished. My prayers are with you...

She was the definition of beauty inside and out. She had something about her that shone from her heart and soul and touched everyone around her. Someone that special and beautiful does not simply leave. She will be in the wind we feel against our skin, the warmth from the sun that we feel on cold days. I thank her for showing me what true beauty meant this summer.

With a 392 character limit for Alexis it was like reducing our favorite novel to a tweet. It was a real struggle to think what NOT to say! You only had to meet Alexis once to be affected by her. She was an amazing girl with a big heart & a contagious smile. "Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as god calls us one by one, the chain will link again" Be at Peace Alexis

Alexis could not have asked for better parents! Children are inspired to learn from those closest to them & they then project this onto the world. Alexis was kind & strong & brought joy to so many. I have long been in awe of her & will never forget her. I will miss her bright eyes/big smile! The world was blessed to have Alexis! Bless you Bil & Kara for sharing your daughter with us all.

either there will be something solid for you to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly" ( P Overton)

Bil and Kara, my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you each day. It’s so hard to know what to say because I’m sorry just isn’t enough. We are all very grateful we were able to have had your sweet girl in our lives; she meant something and made a difference to each of us. She will never be forgotten.

Alexis was one of my son’s dearest friends and loved by us all. Her bubbly smile and personality would light up the room. I was very proud of her for her many accomplishments. This sweet girl has left us way too soon; the heartbreak I feel cannot be described in words.

Life seems so empty without you around. You could always cheer me up when I was down, and were always good for a laugh(either at or with). You were one of my best friends, and I will always love you. R.I.P Alexis, you will always be missed.

Our dearest Goddaughter. We stuggle to understand why you left us all so soon. As we stare into the large void you have left in our hearts, we take some comfort in remembering your beautiful sparkling eyes, wonderful laugh and the lovely young woman you had become. Watching you grow up was one of our greatest joys. We love and miss you very much Alexis.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon or why you left before we were ready to say goodbye, but little by little we begin to remember not just that you died but that you lived and that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. Rest in peace sweet Alexis.

There's a hole in our hearts and a hole in the future, it's the place you belong in. We will never understand why you left it and nothing will ever be able to fill it like you did. Missed you today, you weren't where you were supposed to be there was an empty place that you used fill so perfectly. Missing you so very much......

I remember Alexis at St. Joseph's school, when she and my son were classmates.  I remember her telling me the day she was joining the navy league in Nanaimo.  She was so excited.  Some 5 or 6 years later I was passing her in the halls in highschool and thinking how much she had grown up since elementary school.  Such a lovely young lady.  Oh how much that little smile will be misssed.  Be free dear Alexis.
